Matiworks is a small software studio making calm tools for everyday life.
Our first app is Tend — a shared memory for a household, so no one person has to be the one who remembers everything.
What we're for
Most software wants something back. Another minute, another notification, another day on the streak. It is built to be sticky, and stickiness is measured in attention taken from the rest of someone's life.
That's a strange thing to do to a tool. A good tool is quiet. It does its work, gets out of the way, and you think about it roughly as often as you think about a light switch.
So we make the other kind. No ads, because ads mean the person using the thing isn't the customer. No streaks or badges, because software that punishes you for stopping was never really yours. No feed, because a feed is a machine for making you stay. Your data sits in your region and belongs to you, and leaving is a button rather than a negotiation.
What's left when you take all that out is smaller and harder to advertise: tools that remember things so a person doesn't have to. That's most of what we make. It isn't a grand ambition. But the gap between a home where one person carries everything in their head and a home that carries it together is not a small gap, and software is genuinely good at closing it.
We build slowly, for people we can picture, starting with our own household. One thing at a time, done properly.
